...A few of them at least.

I appreciate Hetalia because sometimes you can use it to make certain points about issues. Like my beef with stereotypes. Especially ones I've seen between women.

These are some of the stereotypes I've seen people force upon one another in my community (which is not representative of all of America, I understand, but...w/e). When people dress a certain way, people judge them. When people have certain ideals, people judge them. If you're not completely chaste or you dress a certain way, you're a whore, and if you're a feminist, you're a crazy man-hater, and if you don't entirely agree with any polarizing view, you're weak and subservient.

It sucks when people give you critical frowns just because they think you align with a stereotype that they dislike.

TL;DR. Don't judge.

<edit>So I did decide to color the sketch. Plus this texture: [link] </edit>

And you know what, I can see Nyo America being a mix of all of these, since she represents the stereotype of American Women. Though, what makes Hetalia great is that, while it does bring out the stereotypes people see in certain countries, they also show the great qualities that countries see in each other as well. Like while America is a hamburger obsessed, fat, loud, immature and obnoxious jackass, he's also seen as being a good combat fighter, always sees the bright sides of everything no matter how bad they get, always willing to fight for what's right, always willing to fight for the rights of others, and always ready for any given situation no matter how absurd.

In a sense, it also questions us if stereotyping really is as bad as we make it out to be. When we view stereotyping, we think of horrible things we view a particular person based on color, gender, etc. Though, the actual definition is actually "a fixed and simplified image or idea of a particular person or thing." It doesn't mean it has to be insulting. Yes, American women are viewed as rather feminist man-haters, beautiful whores or weak and subservient. But, these types of women also have good stereotypes as well. A feminist is stereotyped also as a strong woman that values and respects the rights of other races, especially black people, and are willing to fight for their rights as well (this includes gay rights by the way). A beautiful woman, that dresses a certain way, are also stereotyped as women that are fun to hangout with, and usually are funny. A woman that doesn't entirely agree with any polarizing view is also stereotyped as women that you can talk to, when you're feeling down, and she will never judge you or your values.

Just like you, I don't believe in stereotyping, but I like that a show with stereotypical characters can make us question stereotyping in of itself. Not all stereotyping is insulting, and some can actually be compliments.
